The Heuer Carrera is one of the most classic expressions of the racing watch.  One of Jack Heuer’s most heartfelt passion projects, the Carrera is imbued with a design ethos of functionality and legibility.  For drivers and crew alike, a chronograph was a necessary part of racing kit that needed to be robust and reliable but also simple enough to reference on the fly.  And for a watch designed in the late 1960s, the Carrera remains a stunner, proving the brilliance of Jack’s design philosophy.

Carreras were produced in a variety of styles with a range of dials configurations, including relatively standard black and silver dials and the rarer, more sought after panda dials.  Still rare, but slightly more available and affordable than the coveted panda dials, are the black and silver dials with added tachymeter, decimal or pulsometer chapter rings in red, blue, white and black.  These rings add a wonderful touch of color to an otherwise simplistic dial, making them a particularly attractive option for the enterprising collector.

The 2447S is Heuer's simplest expression of the triple register Carrera but unapologetic in its spartan feel.  Perfectly balanced and sleek, 'S' (for silver) variants are cooly understated and matter of fact; there is no other watch in the Heuer pantheon that rides the wrist with such ease.  The pleasure of purists, a silver-dialed Carrera is the of the Heuer lineup.  

Like the elusive Elan, early Heuers are getting very hard to locate, especially with strong, sharp cases and unmolested dials.  This particular example is in stunning condition throughout and has an immaculate dial - a Mark I dial, nonetheless!  

Our love for vintage Heuer knows little bounds and if you've ever heard us wax poetic about the brand's early work, you know that we still believe Heuer to be a strong rival to the other oft-coveted racing chronos from the 60s and 70s.  And when you look at a piece like this one, it's easy to see why.
